Date Completed:
Aug. 2011
This project included the complete rehabilitation of the runway and taxiway of the Cranbrook Airport, which had last been paved in 1990. The project involved hot in-place recycling, grading, concrete apron removal, overlay, cold milling, paving and construction of catch basins and runway shoulders at the same height as the pavement. For this job, a portable asphalt plant was established at the site.
A major challenge of the project was to complete the paving within a tight six-week deadline, with the requirement that all work be completed at night starting at 9 pm and ending at 6 am. Construction began on June 1, 2011. Paving started June 27 and was completed August 5.
The project was successfully completed under budget and with no runway/taxiway incursions.
