The Quality Wind Project is a private clean energy generation project. The wind farm is located 17 kilometres north of Tumbler Ridge, BC on Highway 52. It consists of 79 wind turbines, a sub-station and 22 kilometres of transmission lines. The wind farm is expected to generate over 142 megawatts of renewable energy annually.
Chetwynd RediMix supplied all aggregate and concrete for the construction of the sub-station and bases for the wind turbines.
This project was characterized by a large concrete demand over a relatively short period of time. Each turbine base required between 350 and 450 m3 of concrete executed in a single pour, requiring a total of 40,000 m3 of concrete for the project. Chetwynd RediMix operated from a portable concrete plant at the project site and was able to meet all demands for concrete without any quality issues or failures.
Further challenges facing the project included extremely rainy weather, a remote location and rocky and muddy terrain.
