The Meikle Wind Project is a private clean energy generation project located 33 kilometres west of Tumbler Ridge, BC on Highway 52. It consists of 61 wind turbines, a sub-station plus transmission lines. The wind farm is expected to generate over 140 megawatts of renewable energy annually.
Chetwynd RediMix supplied all aggregate and concrete for the construction of the sub-station and bases for the wind turbines.
This project was characterized by a large concrete demand over a relatively short period of time in a remote and mountainous location. Borea began turbine base construction in July and completed in October of 2015. Each turbine base required between 320 and 450 m3 of concrete executed in a single pour, requiring a total of 24,000 m3 of concrete for the project. Chetwynd RediMix operated from a portable concrete plant at the project site and was able to meet all demands for concrete without issues or delays.
