Prince Rupert Airport Runway

Digby Island, Prince Rupert BC

Operating Region:

North Coast

Client:

Prince Rupert Airport Authority

Contract Value:

$8,055,000

Date Completed:

Sept 2014

Adventure Paving completed a full rehabilitation and overlay of the Prince Rupert airport runway and taxiway.

Completed in 4 execution phases, the project required 150,000 m2 of asphalt milling, 27,500 tonnes of asphalt paving, plus line marking, temporary and permanent lighting installation, and site grading and landscaping.

This project had multiple challenges. Logistics challenges were material and crew transportation onto Digby Island, including barging all aggregates onto the Island and excess millings off the Island at high tide. Adventure executed all runway work at night to enable the airport to remain open for daily service throughout the project without interruption. Additionally, the asphalt specification was particularly demanding and required careful engineering and materials sourcing.

The Runway Rehabilitation was completed in Sept 2014 on budget and ahead of schedule.
